Museum of archeoology and history, but not only ! As a cultural, scientific and tourist center in the heart of the city, the Musée d’Yverdon et region safeguards, documents and animates the heritage of northern Vaud. A member of the Association des châteaux suisses and housed in the superb setting of a medieval castle, the Musée d’Yverdon et région is one of the oldest in the canton of Vaud, dating back to the second half of the 18th century. Officially recognized by the State of Vaud, the Musée d’Yverdon et région preserves a very important collection of regional archaeology covering prehistory and the Gallo-Roman and medieval periods. It also holds exceptional ethnographic and Egyptological collections. Finally, it possesses some ten thousand objects relating to the cultural and artistic history of Yverdon and its surroundings: iconography, paintings, photographs, decorative arts as well as objects that bear witness to daily life and industrial culture.
The museum represents the conservatory of the material memory of the Yverdon region. Its mission is to promote this heritage to the public through exhibitions, publications and animations.
Since 2001, the Musée d’Yverdon et région has been governed by the Fondation du Musée d’Yverdon-les-Bains, which is entered in the commercial register and recognized as a public utility. The Foundation is mainly financially supported by the City of Yverdon-les-Bains. By virtue of its status as a museum recognized by the State of Vaud, the Musée d’YVerdon et région preserves important cantonal archaeological collections under the authority of the Musée cantonal d’archéologie et d’histoire (MCAH).
